Trail running
While I was at Sandia, a group of us ran together every day over lunch. Eventually several of us decided to run the Maroon Bells Four Pass Loop together. I have run four marathons and paced friends through 100-mile ultramarathons.
When I am not working I am outside as much as possible. Time in the mountains makes for better concentration at a desk, and an intellectually demanding job seems to make for better days outside too.
I grew up playing a lot of sports, mostly soccer, and still play in men's leagues and pick up ultimate frisbee to keep the competitive itch scratched. Running is the one that stuck: four marathons so far, plus pacing friends at ultramarathons.

I have been lucky enough to travel across the United States and abroad for a wide range of climbing styles. Yosemite is my favourite national park — this is "On the Lamb" in Tuolumne Meadows, a horizontal crack for four pitches.
Colorado's climate means climbing and biking are possible year round. Above is a scramble on the Flatirons; below, a singletrack loop I can ride to straight from the house. Most evenings involve one or the other.
